How NOT to send melted cookies:

June 13, 2018

It doesn’t happen often, but just in case you need them, here are the tip top tips to avoid a melted mishap when sending your Carolina Cookie Company cookies this summer:

  1. Always try to ship your gift to an address where you know (100% without a doubt) someone will be there to receive them when delivered, versus the package being left on the porch. Actually, this is a really good tip at any time of year.  Consider sending them to a work address. After all, who doesn’t want to brag to their coworkers about a great gift!

2. For the sake of yummy goodness, it doesn’t have to be a total surprise. If there isn’t a 100% sure address option, then at least consider telling the recipient a package is coming, even if you don’t tell them what it is.

Look at it this way:

Aunt Lucy’s birthday is next Tuesday.

(Unless the entire family has been keeping this a secret from Aunt Lucy…she knows.)

Every year since you have been able to make a homemade card, you have sent her a gift.

(Congratulations, you have set the bar of family obligation. Not only is she expecting a gift, but she already knows exactly how to make your good-for-nothing cousins feel really guilty.)

So, where is the harm in saying “Be looking for your gift Aunt Lucy, it shouldn’t be allowed to sit outside!” You don’t have to tell her exactly what it is and at least then she can make arrangements if she isn’t going to be home.

(Because, though she would never tell you, wild child Aunt Lucy has decided to treat herself with a bus trip to Vegas.)

So you see, everyone loves a surprise, but sometimes compromising at half a surprise is the better option.

3. Select a flavor that is less likely to melt. Everyone loves the Chunky Chocolate, but if you haven’t tried the Oatmeal Raisin, Sugar, Peanut Butter, or Oatmeal Cranberry Nut flavors you are missing out!

4. Use what you know. So, let’s say you have followed the advice of #2, but now Aunt Lucy wants to know how long she should stare out her window like an impatient puppy. What do you tell her? Tell her you shipped it USPS! Neighborhood postal carriers have a daily routine and deliver in the same area, at relatively the same time, every day. If Aunt Lucy knows her mail gets delivered in the afternoon, then she knows she is free to go to breakfast and shopping with friends in the morning without fear of missing that package.

If you forget these tips, just don’t forget our gourmet cookies are individually wrapped! If the big chunks of chocolate do get soft they won’t leave your oatmeal raisin covered in ….dark…gooey…chocolatey…yummy…ok seriously, am I the only one that thinks this sounds like a GOOD idea?! Rip those packets open, make an oatmeal raisin sandwich, and pretend you just yanked them from the oven! Or…for those of you who are a little more reserved with your cookies, toss them in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes. The chocolate will firm back up and you are good to go!
